About City Detect
Description
We're seeking a Field Operations Manager to lead our expanding hardware network and oversee all aspects of physical part installation from parts sourcing and assembly to deployment and maintenance. You'll ensure the effective and timely installation of City Detect's data collection units for our customers across the United States (including refuse and recycling trucks, consumer vehicles, fixed installations) while working to optimize our sourcing and installation process as we further grow our installation scale.
What You'll Do
- Direct and supervise our in-house technicians and unit assemblers
- Schedule and oversee new installations, coordinating timing between our installation partners, customers, and suppliers
- Participate in the hiring, on-boarding, and training of new staff or partners as we continue to expand operations
- Act as the primary contact regarding unit build-out and installation for our customers, installation partners, and suppliers
- Organize and track supply and product usage, coordinating the purchasing and build-out of new data collection units as needed
- Provide on-site support for installation or maintenance when needed
- Assist with the creation and implementation of hardware assembly and installation documents
Requirements
- Professional experience in hardware installation or development for a mobility industry (ie: automotive, transportation), in the government sector, or in a role with applicable experience (ie: Site Operations Manager, etc)
- Professional experience with multi-month, interdisciplinary project management and scheduling
- Familiarity with deploying GPS, camera, or other mobile hardware systems in outdoor production environments
- Solid organization and communication skills, both verbal and written, for collaboration and planning with a diverse set of teams internally and externally
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving team environment
- A valid driver's license may be required for travel to installation sites
- Up to 50% travel early on, but decreasing over time as we push more responsibility to install partners and hire more technicians as needed
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of professional experience in automotive engineering or as an automotive technician
- 1+ years managing and scheduling technicians or production staff
- 1+ years of experience communicating directly with customers or suppliers to negotiate multi-month lead times and scheduling, ideally at a national scale
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Robotics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience with embedded systems, real-time systems, or Linux, especially as it relates to data collection or self-driving systems
- Experience with CAD software (Autodesk, SolidWorks, Catia, etc) and prototyping (3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, vacuum forming)
- Experience with supply, production, and equipment tracking systems (BOMIST, odoo, etc)
- Knowledge of materials, machining, and other hardware creation processes and limitations
- Knowledge of GIS systems and software (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc), especially for vehicle performance tracking
- Located near a central, major airport, ideally with a large manufacturing presence (Detroit, Chicago, Dallas)
Benefits
- Eligible for company equity incentive plan
- Long-term fully remote position, but in-person work required early on
- Unlimited PTO
- Health, vision, and dental insurance
- $100 monthly wellness stipend
- Bi-annual team retreat
- Professional development opportunities
What to Expect in Our Hiring Process
Our hiring process is designed to be thoughtful, efficient, and human. Candidates typically move through a short series of interviews over 2–3 weeks, starting with a 30-minute phone screening, followed by one or two technical conversations and a final interview with our CEO.
We focus on cultural alignment, real-world technical understanding, and career goals—not coding puzzles or LeetCode-style tests. You’ll hear back within 24 hours after each stage whenever possible. If an offer is extended, the role begins with a 30-day trial period where you’ll take ownership of a meaningful project and receive clear, ongoing feedback to ensure mutual fit.
Due to regulatory and operational requirements, we are currently only considering candidates based in the United States.
Salary
$75,000 - $95,000 per year
